(i) SGOT – SGOT is an enzyme which transfers an amino group from glutamic acid to oxalo-acetic acid
and also catalyzes the reverse reaction. SGOT activity 8-40 units/ml of normal serum which can rise during
infective hepatitis & other liver problems.
(ii) SGPT – this enzyme transfers an amino group from glutamic acid to pyruvic acid and also catalyzes
the reverse reaction. SGPT activity 9-30 units/ml of normal serum which can rise in infective & toxic
hepatitis, jaundice etc.
(iii) Alkaline Phosphatase – this is another important enzyme which can be used for the
detection of liver functions. This enzyme is present in different parts of the body but is most
abundant in the live
